Linn County auditor seeking one more term

CEDAR RAPIDS - Linn County Auditor Joel Miller announced Wednesday he will seek one final term in this fall's elections.

Miller, 60, said in a news release that he has been urged on by residents.

'I am asking voters to re-elect me so that I can continue to ask questions, improve accountability and improve transparency in Linn County's government,” Miller said. 'My vision for the auditor's office is: Every person engaged in local government. I believe the best way to engage every person - every customer - it to retain a highly talented team of professionals who can ‘turn on' the public when the public interacts with our office.”

Miller said this will be his last bid for the elected position. If re-elected, he plans to train a potential successor.

He first was elected to county auditor in a 2007 special election. He was re-elected in 2008 and 2012 and has served a total of nine years.

His office manages many duties, including administering elections, handling voter registration and processing real estate transfers.

In addition to Miller, the Linn County Auditor's Office has 15 full-time and two part-time employees.

The filing deadline for county candidates is March 30. No other candidates had announced for the auditor seat as of Wednesday.
