Dennis James Langenberg, 69, died peacefully Thursday, Feb. 18, 2016, in the Palliative Care Unit at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics surrounded by family.
Visitation will be Sunday, Feb. 21, from 1 to 4 p.m. at Lensing Funeral & Cremation Service, Iowa City, where a tribute to celebrate Dennis will be held at 4 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Regina Foundation or University of Iowa Foundation for Palliative Care at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics.
Dennis was born May 3, 1946, in Iowa City, the son of Henry Nicholas and Clotilda Marguerite Lynch Langenberg. He was a 1964 graduate of Regina High School.
Dennis owned and operated Regal Vending for over 25 years, retiring in 2002. From 1978 to 1986, he served on the Johnson County Board of Supervisors.
Dennis enjoyed NASCAR and was an avid Iowa Hawkeye fan. He often had side bets with friends on the outcome of racing or sporting events. Dennis liked to travel, especially to Fort Myers Beach, Fla.
Most important to Dennis was time spent with his family, grandchildren and his friends. Dennis loved his American Eskimos, Snoopy, Olaf and Shiro.
His favorite expressions were, "You better believe it, don't you worry about, be back in ten" and he would often "eeek" his friends.
Special thanks to everyone who cared for Dennis at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics Palliative Care and Windmill Manor and to his many loving friends.
Survivors include his three children, Kris (Matt) Leonard of Iowa City, Angie Langenberg of Iowa City and Michele (Scott) Sadler of North Liberty; three grandchildren, Lindsey (Chas) Wilson, Taylor Leonard and Chloe Sadler; two great-grandchildren, Addison and Drake Wilson; his sister, Phyllis Pechman of Pittsburgh; his brother, Pat (Kay) Langenberg of Iowa City; and sister-in-law, Fran Langenberg of Washington.
