Kammerer, Leo P.
Leo P. Kammerer, 83, of Cedar Rapids, died Saturday, Jan. 9, 2010, at Mercy Medical Center following a short illness. Funeral Mass: 11 a.m. Friday at St. Pius X Catholic Church by the Rev. Donald Klein. Private Family Burial: Mount Calvary Cemetery. A vigil service will be held at 5 p.m. Thursday at Teahen Funeral Home, where friends may visit from 4:30 until 7:30 p.m.
Leo is survived by his wife of 62 years, June; son, Mike (Nancy) of Des Moines; daughter, Pam (Mark) Zimmerman of Cedar Rapids; grandchildren, Christy (Chris) Thomas, Jaime (Sayle) Shipman, Jason (Tara) Kammerer and Kelly (Aaron) Miller; stepgranddaughter, Sarah (Jeff) Smith; six great-grandchildren; and one niece, Penny Decker.
His parents and two sisters preceded Leo in death.
Leo Paul Kammerer was born Aug. 6, 1926, in Beaver Dam, Wis., the son of Leo J. and Elizebeth A. Drexler Kammerer. He married June Adel Mulert on July 31, 1948, in Rock Island, Ill., at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Leo started his career in 1947 at Collins Radio. He retired from Rockwell International as an engineer in 1981. He served his country in the Navy during World War II. Leo was a charter member of St. Pius X Catholic Church. He was an avid golfer, enjoyed woodworking, and spending time with family and friends.
Instead of flowers, the family requests memorials be directed to St. Pius X Catholic Church.
