Monticello
Robert Lincoln Thoeni, 86, passed away Tuesday, March 17, 2015. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, March 28, at the First Presbyterian Church in Monticello. Visitation will begin at 1 p.m. Saturday at the church until the time of the service.
Robert is survived by his wife, Margaret; their two children, Janine (Eric) Wahl of Bemidji, Minn., and Janda (Lorenzo) Canalis of Rome, Ga.; three grandchildren, Ian (Rene) Canalis of Athens, Ga., Amy Canalis of New Orleans, La., and Matthew (Bri) of Denver, Colo.; four great-grandchildren; and one brother, John (Sandy) Thoeni of Poulsbo, Wash., their daughter, Lorin (Jay) Clifford; and three sons, John, Peter and Jim.
Robert Lincoln Thoeni was born in Monticello, Iowa, on July 5, 1928, to Lincoln Thoeni and Eliza Zimmerman Thoeni. He was united in marriage to Margaret Eilers on Sept. 23, 1951, in Center Junction. Robert owned and operated a feed and seed business until his retirement in 1991. Upon retirement, Robert and Margaret were blessed with many wonderful years traveling together and enjoying their family.
Memorials are suggested to Camp Courageous, where Robert served on the board for 32 years, or any charity of choice.
