Edwards, Clarence Frank
Clarence Frank Edwards, 96, of The Meth-Wick Community Woodlands, died Sunday, Jan. 2, 2011. Services: 1 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 6, at Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories with the Rev. Laura L. Smith officiating with Masonic rites by Mizpah Mason Lodge No. 639 A.F. & A.M. to follow. Burial will be in Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home.
Survivors include two sons, Kirby and wife Kelly of Benson, Ariz., and Allan and wife Marcia of Cedar Rapids; and a daughter, Kay Stowers of Des Moines.
Clarence was the grandpa of 13, great-grandpa of 32 and great-great-grandpa of eight.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy; son, Clarence Raymond Edwards; brother, Wayne of Des Moines; parents, John and Fannie Zimmerman Edwards; and two great-grandsons.
Clarence was born June 6, 1914, in Des Moines, to John and Fannie Zimmerman Edwards. He married Ernestine Lewis April 21, 1934, and later divorced. He married Vera (Dorothy) Lang on Oct. 1, 1938. He moved to Cedar Rapids in 1944 to work at Fruehoff Trailer Co. and later became chief inspector. He retired from Dlask Grocery Store on Ellis Boulevard in 1981. He was a member of Kenwood Park United Methodist Church; active member of Mizpah Masonic Lodge No. 639 A.F. & A.M., Cedar Rapids for over 50 years and Ambar Grotto for more than 50 years; and the Order of the Eastern Star.
Clarence and Dorothy loved to travel and took many trips throughout the U.S. He spent countless hours working in his garden, which produced the best tomatoes and strawberries.
The family would like to extend our deep appreciation to the staff at Meth-Wick and St. Luke's Hospice for their outstanding care and kindness given to our Dad and Grandpa.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Luke's Hospice, Kenwood Park United Methodist Church, Meth-Wick Community or to a charity of the donor's choice.
