Class 1A, 2A boys' basketball district assignments

Jan. 9, 2012 1:32 pm
Last season, North Cedar and Cascade met in the first round of the boys' state basketball tournament. This season, they might meet just to get there.
The Iowa High School Athletic Association released district assignments for all Class 1A and 2A schools Monday. That North Cedar and Cascade are in adjoining districts is one of the more notable things.
Eastern Iowa has its share of good 2A teams, so you wondered how the IHSAA would split them up, if at all. In District 9, Cascade is joined by rival Dyersville Beckman and good clubs from Maquoketa Valley and Northeast Goose Lake. In District 10, North Cedar is joined by unbeaten Monticello and West Branch, among others. The winners of those two districts play each other in a 2A substate.
Mount Vernon appears to have a much easier path to state in 2A, though District 11 mate Iowa City Regina is a capable squad. The Mustangs beat the Regals on Saturday night, 64-45.
In Class 1A, Cedar Valley Christian's first official IHSAA postseason foray will be as a District 11 member along with Alburnett, Belle Plaine, English Valleys, Highland, HLV, Iowa Mennonite, Iowa Valley, Lone Tree and Tri-County. Lone Tree and IMS are the class of the district.
Teams in each district will be seeded based on results from games five through 15. Official pairings should be released in late January.
Class 3A and 4A district and substate assignments are expected to be released in two weeks.
Here are the 1A-2A district assignments, with 1A first:
