Robert P. "Bob" Sadler, 81, of Cascade, passed away Sunday, Jan. 27, 2019, at Shady Rest Care Center in Cascade surrounded by his family. Friends and relatives of Bob may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 31, at Reiff Funeral Home in Cascade, where a wake service will be held at 3:30 p.m. Friends also may call after 9 a.m. Friday at the funeral home. Services for Bob will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Feb. 1, at St. Martin's Catholic Church in Cascade with the Very Rev. Mark Ressler presiding. Msgr. Wayne Ressler and the Rev. Loras Otting will be concelebrating. Burial will be held in Calvary Cemetery in Cascade with full military honors afforded by the Cascade American Legion Post 528.
He was born April 23, 1937, in Cascade, Iowa, the son of John Joseph and Laurene C. (Koob) Sadler. He was a graduate of the former St. Mary's School in Cascade. On June 19, 1965, he was united in marriage to Shirley Johnson at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Cedar Rapids. She preceded him in death on Dec. 15, 2018.
Bob enjoyed working on vehicles in the garage, a good card game, and he especially enjoyed spending time with his wife, children and grandchildren.
Bob was employed as a Chevrolet mechanic at Cascade Motor Sales for 29 years. He later was employed at Webber Metals in Cascade until his retirement in 2002. He was a U.S. Air Force veteran, having served as an airman 1st class from 1959 to 1964.
He was a member of St. Matthias Parish in Cascade and a member of the Cascade American Legion Post 528, for which he served as past commander in 1974.
He is survived by four children, Michael (Amanda) Sadler of Frisco, Texas, William (Jill) Sadler of Durand, Ill., Terence Sadler of Warroad, Minn., and Kathy (Joe) Bargo of Iowa City; seven grandchildren, Robbie Sadler, Emily Sadler, Abby Sadler, Ryann Sadler, Katelyn Bargo, Lauren Bargo and Megan Bargo; and three siblings, Charles (Jeanne) Sadler of Cascade, Clifford (Judy) Sadler of Rose Creek, Minn., and Carol (Chuck) McGowan of Hiawatha.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, John Sadler.
