U.S. Senate hopeful Rep. Bruce Braley raises $1.07 million

Apr. 15, 2013 5:31 pm
U.S. Senate hopeful Rep. Bruce Braley has raised $1.07 million and has more than $1 million cash on hand, according to his campaign.
Most of that -- nearly $857,000 -- came from his 2014 Senate committee, according to a campaign report the Braley for Iowa campaign committee will file with the Federal Election Commission. Also, Braley said he received contributions from all 99 counties.
So far, Braley, a fourth-term Democrat from Waterloo, is the only Democrat seeking the party's nomination for the seat now held by Democrat Sen. Tom Harkin, who announced his retirement.
No Republicans have announced they are running for the Senate seat.
Candidates hoping to succeed Braley in Iowa's 1
st
District also are filing first quarter campaign finance reports. Iowa Rep. Pat Murphy, D-Dubuque, reported raising nearly $70,000 in 40 days.
Republican Steve Rathje, a Cedar Rapids businessman, reported raising $51,515.
Another Republican 1
st
District hopeful, Rod Blum of Dubuque, is not required to file a first quarter fundraising report because of the timing of his announcement that he will run.
He will file a statement of candidacy and campaign organization at the appropriate time, according to a campaign spokesman.
