Roseland, Nina Larimore
Nina Larimore Roseland, 82, died Tuesday, Dec. 13, 2011, at Iowa Methodist Hospital after a courageous battle with scleroderma.
Nina was born June 7, 1929, in New Orleans, La., to Dr. Ogilvie M. Larimore, a renowned cancer research doctor at Johns Hopkins, and Gertrude Gardenhire Larimore.
She was raised in Moorhead, Minn., and Des Moines, Iowa. Nina graduated from Roosevelt High School, where she was a champion swimmer, having set many school records. She attended the University of Iowa, meeting the love of her life Robert (Bob) Roseland. Married for 62 years, they had three children, Craig (Cathy) Roseland of Sartell, Minn., Anne (Mike) Thompson of Irvine, Calif., and Kurt Roseland; and two grandchildren, Kate and Robert.
Nina was a vibrant, fun-loving sportswoman. She was an excellent tennis player and golfer, and was famous for always landing the largest walleyes at the family cabin on Lake Vermilion in northern Minnesota. She loved art, the outdoors, good books, her family and friends, and the Iowa Hawkeyes! She was a class act!
She was preceded in death by her parents; her sister, Louise; and son, Kurt.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 22, 2011, at Iles Funeral Homes - Dunn's Chapel, 2121 Grand Ave., Des Moines. Her family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
