Kurt, Susan V.
Susan V. Kurt, 61, of 824 Fifth Ave. SW, Cascade, Iowa, died Monday, Sept. 23, 2013, at 12:05 a.m. at her home in Cascade. Friends and relatives of Susan may call from 3 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the Reiff Funeral Home in Cascade, where a wake service will be held at 7:30 p.m. Services for Susan will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Garryowen, with the Rev. Msgr. Richard Funke Presiding. Burial will be held in Calvary Cemetery in Cascade.
Susan was born Sept. 13, 1952, in Cascade, Iowa, daughter of Henry “Harry” and Virginia (Davis) McLees. She received her education in the former St. Martin's grade school and was a 1970 graduate of Aquin High School in Cascade. On Nov. 18, 1972, she was united in marriage to Gary Kurt at St. Martin's Catholic Church in Cascade. She worked at Cascade Forrestery and later at Happy Joe's in Cascade.
Sue loved spending time with her family, she especially enjoyed her time with the grandchildren and the trips to Colorado. She enjoyed traveling to Hawaii and Alaska with her husband and her trips to Florida, especially the trip with Jamie's family, the Kelchen's and her sister-in-law, Jean. She spent time outdoors bicycling and walking. She liked dogs, horses, reading and collected many horse and tree figurines.
She is survived by her husband, Gary Kurt of Cascade; a son, Jamie (Ana) Kurt; a grandson, Weiland; and granddaughter, Isabelle all of Lakewood, Colo.; her mother, Virginia McLees of Cascade; five siblings, Elona McLees of Cascade, Bonnie McLees of Marion, Ted (Sara) McLees of Davenport, Tim (Maribeth) McLees of Cedar Rapids, IA, and Terry (Marsha) McLees of Madison, WI; sisters and brothers-in-law, Jean (Gene) Conrad of Cascade, IA, Vernon Kurt of Woodstock, Ga. and David (Julie) Kurt of Cascade; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her father, Henry “Harry” McLees; and her father and mother-in-law, Lawrence and Bernadette Kurt.
