Kurt, Merlin E. 'Bud'
Merlin E. “Bud” Kurt, 84, of Davenport, formerly of Cedar Rapids, died Thursday, March 4, 2010, at the Kahl Home in Davenport. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Ludmila's Catholic Church, with the Rev. Thomas McDermott officiating. Friends may call at the church after 9 a.m. Tuesday. Arrangements by Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home.
Survivors include his wife of 52 years, Marian; two sons, Dennis and wife Kathy Kurt of Corcoran, Minn., and Ted and wife Rebecca Kurt of Davenport; two sisters, Bernice (Bea) Gudenkauf, late husband Alfred, of Warrenville, Ill., and Elaine (Toots) Hoffman, late husband William, of Cascade; two brothers, Adrian (Ade) Kurt, late wife Dorothy, of Cascade and late Richard (Lou) Kurt and wife Marjorie of Indianapolis; two grandchildren, Brian and Megan Kurt of Corcoran, Minn.; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Bud was born Sept. 8, 1925, in Cascade, Iowa, to Edward and Rosalyn Curley Kurt. He married Marian Schulte on Feb. 26, 1957, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Cedar Rapids. Bud served in World War II in both the Navy and the Marines. He graduated from the University of Iowa with a degree in physical education and a varsity letter in baseball. He worked at Penford Products from October 1957 to his retirement in April 1988.
Bud's family wishes special thanks to the Genesis Hospice staff, The Kahl Home staff, and Jersey Ridge staff for their tender care of Bud.
