Kurt, The Rev. Allan J.
The Rev. Allan J. Kurt, 84, of Albuquerque, N.M., formerly of Cascade, died Saturday, April 6, 2013, at the Presbyterian Hospice Home in Albuquerque. Friends and relatives of Father Allan Kurt may call from 9 to 11 a.m. Thursday, April 11, at St. Martin's Catholic Church in Cascade, where services for the Rev. Allan Kurt will be held at 11 a.m. with Archbishop Jerome Hanus presiding. Concelebrating will be other priests from the Archdisocese. Homilist will be the Rev. Aloysius J. Vorwald. Assisting deacon will be Steven Strang. Burial will be held in Calvary Cemetery in Cascade. The Reiff Funeral Home in Cascade is in charge of arrangements.
Allan was born Oct. 14, 1928, in Monticello, Iowa, son of George and Barbara (Weber) Kurt. He received his education in the Cascade area schools. He was a graduate of Loras College, Dubuque, and took his theological training at Conception Seminary in Missouri. He was ordained May 28, 1955 at St. Mary's Church in Cascade by Archbishop Leo Binz. Father Allan said his first solemn mass on May 29, 1955.
His first assignment was as an associate at St. Patrick's Parish in Cedar Rapids from 1955 to 56. He was appointed to St. Mary Parish and St. Peter Claver Parish, Waterloo in 1956; to St. Boniface Parish, New Vienna in 1957; to St. Anthony Parish in Dubuque in 1958; and to St. Mark Parish, Iowa Falls in 1959. Father Kurt served several months at St. Benedict Parish, Decorah, before returning to St. Patrick Parish, Cedar Rapids in 1960. He was later appointed to St. Patrick's Parish in Dubuque in 1972, where he served until leaving active ministry for health reasons in 1979.
He is survived by his siblings, Sister Lucy Kurt of Dubuque, Ronald (Pat) Kurt of Cascade and Karl T. (Larita) Kurt of Monticello.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers and a sister-in-law, Steve, Kurt and Ralph P. (Lorraine) Kurt; a sister and brother-in-law, Wilma and Clifford Priebe; and a nephew, Brian Kurt.
