Higher oil taxes would have ripple effect

Only five years ago, gas cost more than $4 a gallon. We'll be back there again if Congress lets President Barack Obama single out oil companies for big tax increases. That also would bring higher prices for nearly everything that is shipped by truck, ship, train and plane.
If you think paying more for gas hurts your family, imagine how much it hurts trucking companies. Think they won't raise their prices when their fuel costs rise by thousands of dollars?
Whether you like it or not, our whole economy is dependent on fossil fuels and will be for decades. The president cannot separate those companies from all of the other economic activity that depends on them.
Iowans need to let elected officials in Washington know that we want real tax reform, not a fake tax reform that raises prices for everyone.
