LUCILLE ANN EFTING
1930 - 2016
Waterloo
Lucille Efting of Waterloo passed away May 22, 2016, at Cedar Valley Hospice, surrounded by her family and the angels of hospice.
She was born June 20, 1930, in Hazleton to Charles and Vera VanVooren. She graduated from high school at age 16 and moved to Waterloo to pursue a career in office work. In Waterloo, she fell in love and married Bill Efting on Nov. 19, 1956. There they raised four children and were married for 56 years until Bill passed away in 2013.
Lucille had a long, successful career with several companies, including Bausch and Lomb and Palmer House Foods. She was well regarded in her field for her attention to detail and her ability to "get things done." Lucille and Bill also spent over 20 years working at the Waterloo baseball park. They loved the atmosphere of the ballpark as well as the many patrons and players they got to know through the years.
While raising four children and working two jobs, Lucille still found time to be of service in her community. She was an active volunteer for the Waterloo AMVETS Auxiliary and at the Noodle Nook during the annual Cattle Congress. She never turned down a request to lend a hand.
In all of her endeavors, she helped others, made lasting friends and supported her family. She led by example and touched many lives. Most important in her life were her children: Cindy Klein, Jim Efting (wife Liz Efting), Lisa Teramo and Mary Curtiss. She was a loving grandmother to 13: Charlie, Meredith and Katherine Klein; Maria, Annie, John and Luke Efting; Nate, Ben and Gracie Teramo and Mitchell, Griffin and Will Curtiss.
Lucille was the oldest of six sisters. She was preceded in death by her sister, Betty Hill. She is survived by Mary Kay Breck, Sister Clare VanVooren, Norma Humphrey and Linda Ridihalgh.
Her service is planned for July 25 at St. Edwards Church, where she was a parishioner for over 50 years. All friends and family are invited to attend.
Donations may be sent to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
