Meyers, Margie Ellestad
Margie Ellestad Meyers died peacefully Sunday, April 28, 2012, at Essentia, St. Joseph's Hospital in Brainerd, Minn.
Margie was born Sept. 16, 1923, to Jarvis and Christine Ellestad in Duluth, Minn. Because of the Great Depression, the family moved to McKinley Township in Cass County where Margie, along with siblings Dolores, Dorothy and Donald attended White Clover and Hill City country schools and later Backus High School, where Margie graduated in 1942.
Margie's friends and family knew her as a very opinionated and outspoken lady! Margie always spoke her mind and enjoyed a good dialogue, especially when writing for various newspapers. Margie's writing started with “The Pine Mountaineer” in high school and continued throughout her life for publications such as “The Cargill News” in Cedar Rapids, The Old Timers Paper and the “Pine River Journal.”
Margie married Merle J. Meyers, “M.J.” in 1962 in Cedar Rapids, where they raised their children, Merle E “Butch,” Susan and Linda. Retirement brought Margie and M.J. back to central Minnesota, where she enjoyed more writing, her flowers and spending time with her “adopted” family, Greg and Janet Praska; sons, Henry and Charlie; and God son, Bruce.
Margie is survived by her husband, Merle J. Meyers; son, Merle E. (Jean) Meyers; grandsons, Jason, Chad and Travis of Cedar Rapids; daughter, Linda Meyer of Cedar Rapids; son-in-law, Steve Weigand of Cedar Rapids; sister, Dolores; brother, Donald; and the Greg Praska family of Brainerd, Minn.
She was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Dorothy; and her beloved daughter, Susan.
Friends may call from 1 to 3 p.m. Thursday at the Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home. Entombment will take place at Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories Mausoleum.
