Leonard, Irene
Irene Leonard, 82, of Sun City, Ariz., formerly of Cedar Rapids, was called to meet our Heavenly Father on Tuesday, Sept. 4, 2012.
Irene was born Nov. 24, 1929, to Joseph and Anna Nagy in Windber, Pa.
She was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Margaret Hacking; and brother, Steve Nagy.
She is survived by her loving husband, Elmer, whom she married in Windber on Nov. 24, 1951; children, JoAnn (Greg) Snyder, Tom (Mindy) Leonard, Kevin (Kelly) Leonard and Joell (Greg) Smith; grandchildren, Phil, Bret, Zach, Eric, Ryan, Nicholas, Alex and Addison. Her sister, Ann Freeman, many nieces and nephews, and many special friends also survive.
Irene graduated from Windber High School. She was a member of American Legion Post 29, was a Red Cross volunteer, and served on the Sun City Posse. Before retiring she worked for the Cedar Rapids School District.
She enjoyed bowling, cards, gambling and especially her BINGO and Bingo family.
A special thank you to the Sun City Hospice of the Valley.
A funeral will be celebrated on Friday, Sept. 28, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Matthew's Catholic Church in Cedar Rapids. A luncheon will follow at the church.
