Dunahugh, Dr. Mark D.
Dr. Mark D. Dunahugh, 49, of Bettendorf, passed away Friday, Feb. 22, 2013, at Trinity Medical Center West Campus, Rock Island, following a brief battle with cancer. Funeral services and Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 27, at St. John Vianney Catholic Church, Bettendorf. Visitation will be Tuesday at the church from 5 until 8 p.m. Burial will be at Oakdale Memorial Gardens, Davenport.
Memorials may be made to the family for a memorial fund to be established.
Mark Dennis Dunahugh was born May 5, 1963, in Cedar Rapids, a son of Dennis and Joyce (Martin) Dunahugh. He graduated from the University of Iowa in 1986, with a double major in biology and chemistry and then the Illinois College of Optometry in 1990. He was united in marriage to Debra LaScola on Aug. 6, 1988, in Niles, Ill.
Dr. Mark was an optometrist for over 22 years and owned and operated Dunahugh Eye Care Associates in Davenport, Burlington and formerly in Moline.
Mark was an extraordinary person in everything that he did, whether it was gardening, cooking, or coaching his daughter, Lauren, or son, Sean. He had a great passion and talent for woodworking and enjoyed putting his magical touch on almost everything. As a husband, son and father, he was the best a family could ask for and was a selfless and true gentleman in every sense of the word. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
He was a fan of the Boston Red Sox and enjoyed using his personal pilot's license.
Mark is survived by his wife, Debbie, and their children, Lauren and Sean, all of Bettendorf; brother, Jeff Dunahugh, Robins, Iowa; mother, Joyce Oldorf (Larry), Anamosa, Iowa; father- and mother-in-law, Martin and Dorothy LaScola, Sugar Grove, Ill.; and brother-in-law, Martin (Ana) LaScola, Buffalo Grove, Ill.
His father preceded him in death.
Halligan-McCabe-DeVries Funeral Home, Davenport, is assisting his family with the arrangements.
