Show our strength by being welcoming

The president has been making comments about choosing between strength and heart with regards to the situation on the border.
I can't think of anything that screams more about how weak we are as a country than the polices being pushed by the government. To take children from families fleeing violence is not strength, it is a display of fear. He says that if we allow these people into our country we will be overrun and crime will skyrocket. There is no proof showing that immigrants are more likely to commit crimes than citizens.
To claim you fear violence from those in need as a reason to not help them will never be strength.
Be strong through compassion. Be strong by not being scared. Be strong by welcoming them with open arms.
If we are going to play the role of the best country on earth we can help those that need help.
