Johnson, James Daniel 'Dan'
James Daniel “Dan” Johnson passed away Sunday, Dec. 29, 2013. at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City at the age of 59 years.
Dan was born July 30, 1954, in Portsmouth, Va., the son of Leo A. “Jack” and Mary C. (Sullivan) Johnson. He graduated from Williamsburg High School in 1972 and Iowa State University with a teaching degree.
Dan was a teacher at Beverage Middle School in Omaha for 33 years. After teaching he retired in Kingsville, Texas.
He was a member of St. Gertrude Catholic Church in Texas. He enjoyed reading, fishing and computers.
He is survived by his father and stepmother, Jack (Marilyn) Johnson of Parnell; a sister, Margaret (Vito) Safina of Parnell; a brother, Bill (Linda) Johnson of Iowa City; a stepbrother, Michael (Daun) Hanson of Iowa City; a stepsister, Mary Pat (Jeremy) Karstens of Iowa City; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Dan was preceded in death by his mother, Mary in 2004.
Funeral Mass will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 2, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Williamsburg. Father Joseph Roost will officiate. Burial will be at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery in Parnell. Visitation will be Wednesday from 4 to 7 p.m. at Powell Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Williamsburg, where there will be a prayer service at 4 p.m.
