SHIRLEY IRENE HORAK
Marion
Shirley Irene Horak, 85, was born in Shueyville, on Aug. 17, 1930. She passed away peacefully at Bickford Cottage on Monday, March 28, 2016. Visitation: 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday, March 31, at Springville Presbyterian Church. Funeral service: 10:30 a.m. Friday, April 1, at the church conducted by Chaplain Jim Goodrich. Private family burial will take place at Shueyville Cemetery. Arrangements by Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Marion.
Our mom was a wonderful farm wife, mother, grandma and great-grandma. She tended to a huge garden, canning and freezing everything that she picked. Her specialty were kolaches, they were known as some of the best. During baling season she would make full meals and take them to the fields, it always was a treat for those on the hayracks! She would always get all of her work done so that when the grandkids came she could just sit and play. Mom was a longtime Springville Presbyterian Church member and sang in the choir for 53 years.
Left behind to cherish her memory are Russell and Kathleen Horak and Diane and Steve Jensen; grandchildren, Alan (Sarah), Tracy (Tom), Ben (Melissa), Melissa (Andrew) and Gisele (Benge); great-grandchildren, Emily, Abby, Gabe, Alena, Nora, Edith, Tillie, Lucie, Sadie and Miles; and brother, Don (Shirley) Turecek.
Shirley was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Vernon; and great-grandson, Mitchell.
Mom was a woman of great faith and we know Dad was waiting for her! Probably hoping for a plate of kolaches!
Special thank-you to all the staff at Bickford Cottage: Katrina, Sarah, Ali, Jenna, Holly O., Dora, Pauline, Billie, Tiffany, Patty, Leona and all the rest of you, thank you. Care Initiatives Hospice, Deena and Pastor Jim Goodrich, thank you for walking us through this final door!
Memorials may be directed to the Springville Presbyterian Church in Shirley's memory.
