Funke, Edward L.
MANCHESTER - Edward L. Funke, 84, of Manchester, died Friday, Oct. 15, 2010, at Regional Medical Center in Manchester. Mass of Resurrection: 10:30 a.m. Monday, Oct. 18, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Manchester, with the Rev. John Flaherty officiating. Visitation: 2 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Leonard-Muller Funeral Home in Manchester, where there will be a 4 p.m. Scripture service, and after 9:30 a.m. Monday at the church. Burial, with military rites: St. Joseph's Cemetery in Greeley.
He was born Sept. 18, 1926, near Greeley, the son of Bernard and Margaret (Klostermann) Funke. Ed was raised and educated in the Greeley area. Ed served honorably in the U.S. Army. Following his tour of duty he returned to farm at Greeley. He was united in marriage to LouMae Bruggeman on Aug. 17, 1953, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Earlville. Five children were born to this union. Together they continued to farm until moving to Manchester in 1983.
Ed worked part time for Farm Service Agency and also as a weed commissioner for Delaware County.
Ed was a member of the Greeley Commercial Club, Edgewood Co-op Board, Community Savings Bank Board, Delaware County Pork Producers, Greeley Legion, Knights of Columbus, St. Mary's Catholic Church, and a past member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Greeley,
Survivors include his wife, LouMae Funke of Manchester; four children, Steve (Stacie) Funke of Nevada, Iowa, Debra (Mark) Recker of Manchester, Rick (Mary) Funke of Greeley, and Barry (Rebecca Fletcher) Funke of Manchester; grandchildren, Lucas and Meredith Funke, Timothy (Kera) and Thomas Recker, Benett (Libby), Blake, and Brittany Funke, and Macie Funke and Bentley Fletcher; one great-grandson, Kaden Recker; and four sisters, Charlette Mensen of Manchester, Helen Vaske of Edgewood, Esther Lechtenberg of Manchester, and Marjorie Reinert of Edgewood.
Ed was preceded in death by one infant son, Scott; his parents; three brothers, Ralph, Art and Lester; and a sister, Irene Mensen.
