Potter, Richard W.
Richard W. Potter, 77, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, passed away Monday, Oct. 1, 2012, in Cedar Rapids.
Richard (Dick) was born Jan. 8, 1935, in Dubuque, Iowa, to Leslie Dean and Leila (Irmscher) Potter. Dick spent most of his childhood in Des Moines, where he graduated from East High School. He earned his bachelor's degree from Cornell College in Mount Vernon, where he also met his wife of 54 years, Patricia Albright. Following graduation, Dick entered the US Marine Corp where he became a first lieutenant. Dick returned to Cornell where he later retired after 30 plus years as the director of development. Among his many passions, Dick loved hunting, fishing and spending time with family and friends.
Dick is survived by wife, Patricia Potter; children, Aldean (Greg) Edwards, Mark (Julie) Potter, Mike (Molly) Potter and Penny (Mike) Hargens; and nine grandchildren.
Dick was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Roland Potter.
Visitation will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 3, at Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories with services to follow at 11 a.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to a fund in his name to Cornell College.
