Melvin Robert Pollock, 85, died March 11, 2015. He was born May 27, 1929, in Mount Auburn, Iowa, son of Hiram Arthur and Dorothy Margaritte Wiegand Pollock. He attended several Cedar Township rural schools and the Mount Auburn School, Benton County, Iowa. He graduated from Lincoln High School in Vinton, Iowa. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served in the Far East during the Korean War.
He married Ila Mae Brandt in Vinton on Feb 10, 1956. She preceded him in death in 1992. He married Catherene C. Friedly in Jesup, Iowa, Aug. 10, 1996.
He is survived by his wife, Catherene Friedly-Pollock, Evansdale; one daughter, Patricia (Brian) Pollock-Moulds, Marion, Iowa; three granddaughters, Jennifer (LB) Hurley, Curlew, Iowa, Amanda (Jeff) Kistner, Hiawatha, Iowa, and Kathyrn Jones, Marion, Iowa; three stepdaughters, Carie Hansen, Edina, Minn., Kristine Brandt, Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and Jeanie (Terry) Fisher, St. Charles, Minn.; two stepsons, James Whitford, Fayetteville, Ark., and Don (Sandy) Brandt, Loomis, Calif.; step-granddaughters, Debbie (Byron) Bailey, Kelly (Dale) Jensen, Morgan Friedly and Candi Fisher; step-grandsons, Lonnie Whitford, Scott Brandt, Eric Brandt, Jason (Chris) Cline, Wes (Val) Friedly, Travis (Amy) Fisher, Chris (Stephanie) Fisher and Chad (Stephanie) Fisher; as well as many step-great-grandchildren.
Also surviving are brothers Roy (Carilyn) Pollock, Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and Gene (Maxine) Pollock, Kailau, Hawaii; sisters, Marilyn Oliver, Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and Beverly Ohm, Center Point, Iowa; and sister-in-law, Laura Pollock, Walker, Iowa.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Hiram and Dorothy Pollock-Sallee; his stepfather, Earnest Sallee; stillborn infant twin children; one brother, Lowell Pollock; two brothers-in-law, Wendell Oliver and Jerry Ohm; two step-daughters, Linda Cline and Deb Friedly; and one stepdaughter-in-law, Patsy Brandt.
He was employed by Rockwell International-Collins Avionics for 37 years, retiring in 1990.
Memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, March 21, at La Porte City Funeral Home. Family will greet friends on Friday, March 20, from 4 to 7 p.m. at La Porte City Funeral Home.
Military rites will be administered by Emil H. Dutler Post 177 of Mount Auburn during a private family inurnment at a later date.
