Darrell W. Garrett, 78, of Marion, passed away Thursday, April 27, 2017, at St. Luke's Hospital, Cedar Rapids. Per Darrell's wishes, cremation has taken place and the family will have a private service at a later date. Arrangements made by Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Marion.
Survivors include his wife of 45 years, Sherry; son, Matt (Nicole), and their children, Branden Lesmeister and Liliana Garrett, of Cedar Rapids; brother, Jack (Darlene) of Loveland, Colo.; sister-in-law, Julie (Jerry) Butterworth of Fort Dodge; and nieces, Kristi (Justen) Cimino and family of Atlanta, Ga., and Jodie (Darrell) Lloyd and family of Fort Dodge.
He was preceded in death by his parents; in-laws, Glenn and Elvera Moen; and infant sister, Judy.
Darrell was born May 27, 1938, in Fort Dodge, Iowa, son of James and Emily (Bull) Garrett. He attended Fort Dodge Public Schools and graduated from Fort Dodge Senior High. He served in the Air Force Reserve. Darrell married Sherry Moen in Fort Dodge on Oct. 29, 1971. They made their home in Fort Dodge until moving to Marion in 2014. He sold commercial insurance for a number of years and was the director of risk management for Smithway Motor Xpress for 25 years before retiring in 2006.
