Too much of U.S. corn crop goes to ethanol
The Gazette Opinion Staff
Apr. 20, 2011 11:11 am
More than 3 billion bushels of U.S. corn are used for ethanol production every year now. People are starting to wonder if the prices of groceries going up are because of the U.S. demand for fuel. Farmers shouldn't be putting so much of their corn crop into ethanol production rather than food.
This is part of the reason there has been an increase on food prices. This also could eventually lead to food riots in developing countries.
