Two Waterloo teenagers were injured Saturday on the Mississippi River after the watercraft they were going to use exploded while they were launching it.
Brian Hurley, 15, and Michael Lathrop, 15 were launching their watercraft at the Frenchtown boat ramp, about three miles north of Guttenberg, when the explosion happened. The explosion in the engine threw the two boys into the water.
Both boys were wearing life jackets. Hurley was able to swim to shore, Lathrob was knocked unconscious by the blast and had to be pulled to shore by Hurley's father Colin Hurley.
Hurley and Lathrop were both transported to Guttenberg Municipal Hospital, their injuries do not appear to be life threatening.
