Lois was born on April 20, 1922, in Waconia, Minn., the daughter of Edward and Elizabeth (Wostrel) Wessale. The family moved to St Louis, Mo., shortly after her birth and then settled in Cedar Rapids. Her father and his brothers founded the Waconia Sorgum Factory. During its operation it was identified as the largest sorgum factory in the world. She graduated from McKinley High School in 1940 (see photo). She then attended Coe College and the University of Iowa.
Lois had a son, Robert (Joyce) of Scottsdale, Ariz., and daughter, Sharon (Don) of Scottsdale, Ariz., with her first husband, Robert Beggs. They divorced and she married John G. Krabbenhoft in December 1949. They had two sons, John M. (Michele) of University Park, Fla., and Jay (Patty) of Iowa City, Iowa.
They divorced in 1972 and Lois moved to Mesa, Ariz., in 1973 to be near her family. She married William Capron in 1985 and he passed away in 2006. She then moved to Iowa City to spend her final years with her son, Jay.
Lois was a member of Chi Omega and PEO. She was an administrative assistant at Coe College followed by 12 years at Iowa Electric. Lois was an avid sports fan and participant. She loved the Hawkeyes, hiking, dancing and playing golf. Lois enjoyed being on the water and playing bridge. She would escape the hot summers in Arizona and work as a volunteer in the Grand Tetons. She was a devoted mother to her four children and subsequent grandchildren.
She leaves behind a daughter, three sons, six grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Glen (Doda) Wessale; and a sister, Margaret (George) Sample.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to the staff at Legacy Gardens and Hospice Compassus. Lois was struck with dementia and fought bravely for her last eight years.
