Make buses, not bicycles, a priority

Further to Lynda Waddington's thoughts ('Make extended bus hours a priority,” Jan. 5), I agree there should be a push for extended bus hours in the Cedar Rapids metro area. It is common sense that we should better serve the less fortunate who live among us: the disabled, those who work odd hours, attend night classes - the list goes on.
Bus ridership is growing and additional fares collected help offset the cost of operations and greener buses. That the Corridor MPO continues to spend money on bicycle trails is an embarrassment and waste for most taxpayers. Perhaps we should add turnstiles to collect fees from cyclists to help cover trail maintenance and expansion.
