Do the speed cameras really work?

As a Cedar Rapids resident who drives through two speed cameras nearly every day, I do not believe the statistics used to justify turning the cameras back on.
It doesn't matter if you drive surface streets or Interstate 380, drivers who know where the cameras are tap their brakes to get down to the speed limit. While that alone will look good statistically, it does not make a large difference on how fast people drive when there are no cameras to catch them.
