Johnston, Patricia 'Pat'
Patricia “Pat” Johnston, 78, passed peacefully Sunday, Aug. 4, 2013, at home surrounded by her family. Funeral Services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Lensing Funeral and Cremation Service, Iowa City, with the Rev. Bruce McNeely officiating. Burial will at Pleasant Grove Cemetery, Sigourney. A reception at The Kirkwood Room will follow the funeral.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Downey Baptist Church or Iowa City Hospice.
Pat was born Aug. 18, 1934, in Sigourney, Iowa, the daughter of H.A. (Art) and Josephine Nauman Milburn. She was a graduate of Sigourney High School. On March 20, 1953, Pat was united in marriage to Charles “Chuck” Johnston at the Sigourney Christian Church.
Pat and Chuck farmed north of Keswick, later moving to Maple Plaine, Minn. In 1964, they moved to Iowa City where they farmed east of town. Pat was the office manager for over 31 years with the City of Iowa City Park and Recreation Department, retiring in 2000. Pat drove for Enterprise until 2008.
Pat was a longtime member of the Downey Baptist Church, the University Club and was an avid Hawkeye supporter.
The family is grateful for the notes and continued visits of so many good friends during Pat's illness.
Pat is survived by her three loving children, Jeffrey (Patti) Johnston of Fairfield, Jerry Johnston (Jo McKray) of Iowa City and Julia Johnston of Ames; seven grandchildren, Corey (Amy) Johnston, Dan Johnston, Jason Johnston, Zach McKray, Cale (Lindsey) Johnston, Amanda (Justin) Junkel and Kelsey Johnston; four great-grandchildren, Charlie, Jamie and Lucy Junkel and Elle Johnston and two expectant in November; sister-in-law, Phyllis Hall of Williamsburg; and former sister-in-law, Jeanne Krieg of Marion.
Pat was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Chuck in 2008; and her sisters, Betty (J. Leo) Martin and Dorothy Dean (Norman) Buehneman.
