Beverly (Bev) Shaffer
BEVERLY (BEV) YENNI SHAFFER
Marion
Beverly (Bev) Yenni Shaffer, 90, of Marion, passed away Monday, Feb. 6, 2017, at Linn Manor in Marion. She was surrounded by family at her bedside. A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, Feb. 10, at Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories. A reception will follow after the service at Kenwood Park Methodist Church.
Beverly is survived by her children, William Drew (Cinda) Shaffer of North Liberty and Debra Shaffer of Portland, Ore.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Bill; and her dear brother, Gene.
Beverly wanted to thank her devoted friends, Carol Brown, Jane Fisher, Janet Jones and Pam Landon for their love and support over many decades of her life. The family would also like to thank Kathie Mosley, Mercy Hospice and the wonderful staff at Linn Manor for their support and love over the past years. Finally, the family wishes to thank Jane and Steve Kelly for their overwhelming generosity and support to us over the past five years of Beverly's life. You are all angels to us!
Beverly was born in St. Joseph, Mo., to Albert and Minnie Gerber Yenni, on Dec. 26, 1926. She spent her early years in Missouri and Arizona. She attended Missouri Methodist Hospital School of Nursing in St. Joseph, graduating in 1947 as a registered nurse. Beverly married William M. Shaffer in 1948 in Amazonia, Mo. Bev and Bill moved to Cedar Rapids in 1962, where they raised their family.
Beverly had a strong faith and joined Kenwood Park Methodist Church in 1964. She was a member of United Methodist Women and held many offices in UMW.
Bev enjoyed ballroom and square dancing for many years with Bill. She also loved playing bridge, playing the piano and singing, which she enjoyed up until her death. Music was a great joy to her and all of us who loved her will miss her singing and playing the piano.
