Lois Marie Mitchell, 89, of Cedar Rapids, died Saturday, Jan. 16, 2016, at the Hiawatha Care Center. uneral services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 23, at Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories, where a visitation will begin at noon. Interment: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Cedar Memorial Certified Celebrant Jim Parton will officiate.
Lois was born Dec. 6, 1926, in Fairfield, Iowa, to Floyd and Gladys (Heald) Parks. She graduated from Marion High School and attended Cornell College. She then graduated from Iowa State University with a bachelor's of science degree. She was united in marriage to Robert Gail "Bob" Mitchell on Dec. 28, 1948, in Maquoketa. To this union, five children were born.
Lois worked as a teacher at Jefferson School for over two years and then spent the remainder of her career at Wilson School, where she retired after 26 years of service. She was a member of Trinity Methodist Church.
She is survived by her children, Robert (Konnie) Mitchell of Cedar Rapids, Debra Mitchell of Cedar Rapids, Joan (Steve) Thomas of San Jose, Calif., Anne (Roger) Tisue of Bettendorf and John Mitchell of Rochester, Minn.; 14 grandchildren, Ryan Mitchell, Matt (Elizabeth) Mitchell, Elizabeth Mitchell, Nick Yasa, Tyler (Brooke) Tisue, Jordan Tisue, Gabe (Jessica) Tisue, Mitch (Beth) Thomas, Max Thomas, Stuart Thomas, Merrick Mitchell, Marisa (Anthony) Bushman, Mara Mitchell and Martin Mitchell; two great-grandchildren, Juliette Harper and Warner Mitchell; her sisters, Carolyn Parks of Woodstock, Ill., and Norma (Don) Jensen from Wytheville, Va.; and brother, Thomas (Mary) Parks of Cedar Rapids.
Lois was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Bob, in 2001; and a brother, Richard Parks.
Lois enjoyed sewing, classical music and her flair for gardening was endless. Her family was very important to her and family times spent together always were cherished.
