Letter: Joel Miller holds board accountable

When Joe Stutler concludes that his endorsement from 'several elected county officials, including all five supervisors” is 'a sign that something is very wrong” with the job that our 'longtime incumbent” auditor has been doing ('Marion's Stutler takes on auditor Miller,” March 31), my response is that what such an endorsement signals is that Joel Miller is, in fact, doing his job very well. It signals to me that Miller does not rubber stamp everything that the board wants, but holds it accountable to the citizens of this county.
One example that jumps to mind is the time that the board decided to not attempt to locate all of those people who held expired outstanding checks from the county. Miller successfully challenged that decision, thereby ensuring that all county employees were treated equally. Their endorsement may also signal that the Board of Supervisors wants Stutler to replace Miller because it hopes that Stutler will not challenge it as Miller has, an indication that something is indeed very wrong.
