Gordon (Corky) Madlock, 79, of Cedar Rapids, passed away peacefully Sunday, April 17, 2016, at Living Center East. Celebration of Life services will be held at 6 p.m. Wednesday, April 20, at Brosh Chapel and The Avacentre in Cedar Rapids, located at 2121 Bowling St. SW. Friends may visit with the family one hour before the service. A private family inurnment will be at a later date.
Gordon was born July 15, 1936, in Cedar Rapids, the son of Captain Sherman and Geneva (Crank) Madlock. He graduated from McKinley High School in 1954. Following graduation, he entered into the U.S. Army serving two years. After his service, he worked at Penick & Ford for over 20 years. He retired from Federal Express in 1995. Following retirement, he started GM Associates, a signing service for the financial lending industry. He married Beverly Slaman on Sept. 20, 1993.
Corky enjoyed many sports and followed many of the Iowa teams. Those who knew him can attest to his skills as an excellent cook, most notably his annual barbecues.
Survivors include his sister, Patricia Hicks of Las Vegas, Nev.; and all those who he helped throughout his kind and generous lifetime.
Gordon was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Beverly; sisters, Lorraine Williams and Barbara Brooks; and brothers, John and Donald Madlock.
The family would like to thank the staff and doctors at Living Center East for their kind and compassionate care of Gordon over the last seven years.
