Short chase ends in multiple charges for Maynard man

A Maynard man is in custody on multiple charges after a short chase that ended in a Fayette County cornfield.
Fayette County sheriff's deputies attempted to stop a car driven by Billy J. Rhoads, 28, at around 10:26 p.m. Tuesday at a rural intersection just west of Maynard, according to a news release. Rhoads failed to stop and drove north on P Avenue "at excessive speeds." The chase continue for a short distance before ending in a cornfield.
Rhoads attempted to flee on foot, but was caught and taken to the Fayette County Jail. He was charged with eluding, a class D felony, operating while intoxicated, two counts of speeding, and failure to stop at a stop sign.
