Berniece D. Johnson, 97, of Cedar Rapids, died Saturday, Sept. 19, 2015, at The Woodlands in The Meth-Wick Community. Visitation: Saturday at 10:30 a.m. at Central Church of Christ, followed by a Celebration of Life service at 11:30 a.m. Entombment: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery.
Survivors include her daughters, Marilyn (LaMoyne) Reece, Marlene (Jim) Miller of Cedar Rapids and Maxine (Barry) Boyd of Aurora, Colo.; nine grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and two great- great-grandchildren.
Berniece was born Nov. 17, 1917, in Toddville, Iowa, the daughter of Melvin and Beatrice (Tylee) Waterbury. She married Glen P. Johnson on June 30, 1938, in Davenport. Berniece and Glen were charter members of Central Church of Christ, and she was the oldest living member of the church. She was a Sunday school teacher for 35 years influencing hundreds of fifth and sixth graders. Her faith never wavered. She was a godly woman, wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great-grandmother. She worked for podiatrist, Dr. John Ritchie, for 10 years.
