A leader developing future leaders. That is what Doug Wagemester, the athletic director at Kirkwood Community College, is.
Wagemester was the head coach of the Kirkwood men's basketball team for 15 years before stepping down after last season, compiling an impressive 409-107 record.
For the last few years, he also was the athletic director at Kirkwood. He didn't have the time that he wanted to commit fully to either job.
So, he let his successor, Bryan Peterson, step into the head coach position.
One year later, Wagemester says that he has more time to devote to his department and continue to provide student-athletes with quality programs and the right environment in which students have time to learn and play.
This man succeeded at coaching, and he will succeed as the leader of a fine program.
Any student-athlete looking for a quality program should look no further than Kirkwood.
