Salvation Army pushing to meet fundraising goals

CEDAR RAPIDS - The bells have stopped ringing for another year, but officials from The Salvation Army in Linn and Johnson counties continue collecting money in an attempt to reach their annual campaign goals.
Linn County
The Salvation Army of Cedar Rapids has raised more than $610,000 in its pursuit of an $805,000 goal. That leaves about $195,000 to be raised by Saturday.
Officials said the annual campaign makes up about 48 percent of the organization's annual operating budget, which helps provide a community meal program, rent and utility assistance, supplemental food boxes, senior services, youth character building programs and other social services.
Those wishing to donate can do so in four ways:

l Call (319) 364-9131.
l Send mail, postmarked by Dec. 31, to The Salvation Army of Cedar Rapids, 1000 C Ave. NW, Cedar Rapids, IA 52405.
l Stop by the offices from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. through Friday.
In a news release, officials with The Salvation Army of Cedar Rapids laid out how different donations can be put to work:
l $25 helps provide a food box for a family.
l $50 helps provide dinners to kids in youth programs.
l $100 helps serve approximately 40 meals in the community meal program.
l $150 helps keep the lights on in a family's house.
l $250 helps send 55 campers on a field trip during the summer.
l $500 helps provide approximately 200 meals in the community meal program.
l $1,000 helps 50 people put gas in their vehicles to get to work and take care of their family.
l $1,500 helps 10 families pay their rent and remain in safe housing.
l $2,000 helps provide 80 supplemental food boxes to area households.
Johnson County
The Salvation Army of Johnson County has raised about $254,000 in its quest to reach $350,000. That leaves about $96,000 to be raised by Saturday.
