Elaine Brejcha died Wednesday, Oct. 5, 2016, after a long battle with cancer. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 7, at Zion Lutheran Church in Hiawatha. Funeral will be held at 3:30 p.m. Saturday followed by a dinner at the church.
Elaine was born Aug. 11, 1953, to Carl and Viola (Knock) Schoenfelder. She graduated from the University of Iowa with a double major in journalism and mass communication and sociology. She worked for years in the print advertising field and went on to be coordinator of Czech Village. She found her true calling when she started working for the Cedar Rapids school system as a paraeducator helping young students with reading and math. Her last years in education were spent as a technology instructor for the College Community School District.
She married Edward Brejcha in 1976. The had two sons, Daniel Edward and Brian Scott.
She is survived by her husband, Ed; son, Daniel of Gainesville, Fla.; son, Brian (Rachel) of Cedar Rapids; grandchildren, Taylor and Brayden; brother, Glenn of Apollo Beach, Fla.; and niece, Heidi Page of Oswego, Ill.
Elaine loved to spend time camping with her family. Weekend trips with family and friends were her favorites. In the last few years, becoming a grandma was a special delight for her and she would spoil her grandchildren every chance she got.
A memorial fund has been established.
