Kramer, Herbert G. 'Herb'
Herbert G. “Herb” Kramer, 84, of Dyersville, formerly of Farley, died Tuesday, March 9, 2010, at Finley Hospital in Dubuque. Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. today at Kramer Funeral Home in Dyersville, where a parish Scripture service will be held at 4 p.m. and the Scherrman-Peterson American Legion Post will gather at 6 p.m. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, March 12, at St. Francis Xavier Basilica in Dyersville. Burial: St. Joseph's Cemetery, Farley.
Herb was born Dec. 31, 1925, in Farley, Iowa, the son of Joseph and Mary (Oberbroeckling) Kramer. He received his formal education in the Farley area schools and entered the U.S. Army, serving from 1945-1947 in Korea. Herb and Mae Vaske were united in marriage on May 26, 1948, at St. Clement's Catholic Church in Bankston. Together they farmed north of Farley until retiring to Dyersville in 1995. He was a member of St. Francis Xavier Parish and a life member of Knights of Columbus Council 2001 and Scherrman-Peterson American Legion Post 656, both of Farley.
Herb loved spending time with his family and friends and playing cards. He had a long standing passion for farming and John Deere farm equipment on the Kramer Family Century Farm.
Herb is survived by his wife of 61 years, Mae; seven children, Nancy (Bob) White and Richard J. (Sharon) Kramer, both of Dyersville, Wayne (Teresa) Kramer of Farley, Jean (Gary) Domeyer of Earlville, Julie (Leo) Kluesner of Worthington, Donna (Kim) Olberding of Dyersville and Alan (Connie) Kramer of Farley; 24 grandchildren; four great grandchildren; three sisters, Lorraine Kramer of Dyersville, Martha Jane Demmer of Farley and Arlene Jaeger of Dyersville; and four sisters-in-law, Marguerite Kramer of Lamont, Mary Ann Kramer of North Buena Vista, Carol (Pat) Gehl of Cascade and Grace Vaske of Dyersville.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Daniel on Feb. 9, 1963; five brothers, Ray, Leonard, Clarence, Joe and LaVerne; and four sisters, Evelyn Winter, Mercedes Ries, Bernice Lansing and Marcella Kramer.
We would like to thank the staffs at Finley Hospital and Dr. Ronald Schope for so compassionately tending to our needs during Dad's final days.
