Herbert Richardson, 84, of Marion, passed away Feb. 25, 2014, at St. Luke's Hospital, Cedar Rapids. Visitation will be Friday, Feb. 28, from 4 to 7 p.m. at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home in Cedar Rapids. Memorial service will be 11 a.m. Saturday, March 1, at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home, with military honors. Inurnment will be at a later date.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Richardson of California; stepdaughter, Mildred Stewart of Marion; children, James (Bobbi) Richardson of Aurora, Colo., Pamela Richardson of Cedar Rapids, Delta Richardson (Kent) of Coralville and Cristal (Eric) Tanner of Marion; eight grandchildren; a great-grandchild; and a sister, Wilma Frantz of Anamosa.
He was preceded in death by his parents; first wife, Rosie Richardson; grandson, Bradley Netz; two brothers, Dale Richardson and Willis Richardson; and two sisters, Marie Brown and Catherine Jennings.
Herbert Richardson was born July 5, 1929, in Cedar Rapids, the son of Frank and Nellie (Lentz) Richardson. He proudly served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War where he received the Purple Heart.
Herbert was united in marriage to his first wife, Rosie Richardson, in September 1954. She preceded him in death in 2000. He married Mary Foley in May 2003 in Urbana.
Herbert worked for Quaker Oats and proudly retired after 40 years of service.
He enjoyed fishing, old tractors, auctions and going out for coffee at Scotts Restaurant.
He will be greatly missed.
