BERNICE BEATTY
Cedar Rapids
Bernice Beatty, 97, of Cedar Rapids, died Sunday, Nov. 25, 2018, at West Ridge Care Center in Cedar Rapids. A visitation will be held on Friday, Nov. 30, from 4 to 7 p.m. at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home. A memorial service in remembrance of Bernice will be on Saturday, Dec. 1, at 11 a.m. at Stonebridge Church in Cedar Rapids. A private family graveside service will be held at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery.
Bernice was born April 20, 1921, in Lennox, S.D., the daughter of the Rev. August Cramer and Dena Lay Cramer. She graduated from McKinley High School in Cedar Rapids and attended Coe College. She married Isaac F. McAllister on March 7, 1942, and helped farm the McAllister homestead near Palo, Iowa. They had one daughter, Suellyn Lee. After farming for 17 years, the three of them moved to Elko, Nev., and established Elko County Farm Supply. Isaac passed away Jan. 27, 1967.
Bernice then returned to Iowa in 1973 and married Howard James Beatty of Atkins, Iowa. Bernice enjoyed traveling. In 1968, she traveled to Europe for six weeks, and also made trips to Venezuela, Spain and Morocco. She had been in all 50 states and saw both coasts in Canada. Bernice and Howard wintered in Arizona, Texas and California, including more than 20 winters in Arizona.
Bernice is survived by her grandson, Kevin (Sarah) Corizzo, and great-grandchildren, Connor and Mary; a granddaughter, Victoria Grace Hart; plus six stepchildren, Erna Beatty, Jane Beatty, Karen (Pat) Duggan, Barbara (Kim) Brant, James (Connie) Beatty and Joyce (Gary) Diamond. Also surviving are stepgrandchildren, Amanda and Rachel Brant, Destynee Postel, Jonathan Duggan, Anna Marie Duggan-Barbour, Sam Beatty and Anya and Aiden Diamond.
She was preceded in death by her daughter, Suellyn Lee Palmer, who passed away March 27, 2005; and Howard, her husband of 32 years, who passed away April 28, 2005.
On her heart always has been the study of God's Word and the joy of speaking the Gospel of Jesus Christ with others, including the Epistles of Apostle Paul: God's grace to all, available to believers through Christ's death on the cross and His resurrection.
Bernice was treasured and will be missed tremendously, but the love she shared with her family will be remembered and cherished forever.
Memorials can be made to Stonebridge Church in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
