Best Bet: Taylor Mac at Hancher
Hancher audiences saw Taylor Mac perform the '1846-1856 Whitman vs. Foster” segment of his '24-Decade History of Popular Music” in December 2015. Now he's back with a condensed version of the 24-hour work. The epic musical theater undertaking muses on how communities are built as a result of being torn apart. With more than 246 songs - some original and others popular in the United States from 1776 to now - and more than 13 hours of original text, the entire work is a deconstruction, re-imagining, reframing and re-enactment of 240 years of U.S. history.
