Jerry Newton Case, 73, of Cedar Rapids, died Sunday, Sept. 4, 2016, at St. Luke's Hospital. Services: 4 p.m. Saturday at Teahen Funeral Home by Chaplain Robert Brus. Friends may visit with the family after 3 p.m. until the start of the service at the funeral home.
Jerry is survived by his wife, Brenda; son, Walter Case and daughter, Angela (Christopher) Vasquez, both of Cedar Rapids; 11 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; sister, Linda Case Price of Bridgeport, Ala.; and many nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents; and four brothers, Vernon, Bobby, Billy and Jimmy Case.
Jerry Newton was born on Feb. 24, 1943, in South Pittsburg, Tenn., the son of William and Velma Moore Case. He served in the U.S. Army from 1961 to 1963. Jerry married Brenda Frances Gibson on July 8, 1964, in Richard City, Tenn. He worked as a plant superintendent for Cherry Burrell/Evergreen for 36 years, retiring in 2001.
Jerry loved to cook and made dinner for his wife every night. He also enjoyed watching John Wayne movies. Jerry was often referred to as Mr. Fix-It and after his retirement from Evergreen, he shared his talents by working at Younkers for 10 years.
The love that Jerry and Brenda shared was unmeasurable. They were married for 52 years and to this day, it was as though they were still on their honeymoon.
