Carberry will preserve farm land

Mike Carberry has earned my vote for Johnson County supervisor. He is the best candidate to protect the environment. Carberry will preserve farm land in the North Corridor. He has a plan for sustainable growth in the county that builds from the cities out to the country. Environmentalists should support Carberry.
On the other hand, Janelle Rettig supports the existing land use plan, which allowed the Dooley farm land to be rezoned to residential and allow 70 houses to be built there. This will increase traffic on Newport Road by 300 cars per day, causing congestion and safety issues for the many cyclists and joggers who use this road. Rettig supports urban sprawl at the expense of family farms and is an enemy of cyclists and others who enjoy the pastoral environment that Johnson County has to offer.
There are other reasons I do not trust Rettig's judgment. When Rettig attended the Iowa City Airport Commission meetings, she proposed a plan where pilots who rented hangars but did not fly their planes often enough should pay an additional surcharge.
Carberry is the son of a veterinarian whereas Rettig is an urbanite with no sympathy for the rural environment. Vote for Carberry for good environmental sense.
