Gorman, Thea Fern
Thea Fern Gorman, 86, of Cedar Rapids, died Saturday, June 16, 2012, at Mercy Medical Center, Cedar Rapids. Services: 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, June 20, Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service. Family will greet friends from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Burial: Dunkard Cemetery, Midway, Iowa.
Survivors include children, Alan (Dee), Tom and Gregg Gorman, all of Cedar Rapids, and Karla (Henry) Keyes of Cedar Rapids; sister, Betty Bowers of Cedar Rapids; sister-in-law, Marjorie Bowers of Cedar Rapids; 12 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; stepfather, Merle Van Fossen; and brother, Charles Bowers.
Thea was born March 18, 1926, in Toddville, Iowa, daughter of Charles and Martha (Matheny) Bowers. She graduated from Toddville High school. Thea worked for Turner Microphone. In 1948, she married Harry D. Gorman Jr. and they later divorced. After her children were older she worked for Klein Tools where she designed tool display boards. She retired in 1996. She played for the “Ding-a-Lings,” a bell ringing group at the Garnet Place. Thea loved traveling with Betty, her flowers and gardening.
