Robert D. Flecksing, 87, of Toddville, died on Friday, Aug. 10, 2018. Family and friends will gather to remember Bob from 4 to
7 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 31, 2018, at Stewart Baxter Funeral & Memorial Services, Cedar Rapids. Private family burial and military honors will take place at Dunkard Cemetery, Toddville.
Survivors include his children, Dale (Mary), Ann Teresa, Katherine, Stephen, Laura (Mark), Kurt, William (Dara), Maria and Joan (Bob); and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Bob was born on Sept. 22, 1930, in Cedar Rapids, the son of Franklin and Leta Mae (Elson) Flecksing. He honorably served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War. He met his future wife Barbara in California; they married on June 10, 1951, in Arizona and moved back to Iowa that same year. Bob was a mechanic and truck driver, working for the Ford Garage of Cedar Rapids, several Ready-Mix companies, Linn Co-op and Wynne Trucking. He loved being outdoors and watching wildlife. Bob enjoyed bow hunting, mushrooming and feeding birds, and was a garden railroad enthusiast. He also loved his cats and enjoyed caring for them. Bob will be remembered by his family for his strong work ethic, the care he provided for his family and his creative inventions.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; and sons, James, Brian and David.
Bob was a longtime donor to the St. Labre Indian School and was a member of their Century Society. Memorials may be sent to St. Labre Indian School, P.O. Box 216, Ashland, MT 59003-9989.
