Bowers, Helen L.
Helen L. Bowers, 90, of Toddville, died Sunday, June 27, 2010, at Mercy Hallmar, Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Services: 10:30 a.m., Thursday, July 1, at Zion Lutheran Church, Hiawatha, by the Rev. Dan Krueger. The family will greet friends from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, June 30, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Center, Marion, and one hour before the service at the church on Thursday. Burial: Dunkard Cemetery, Toddville, Iowa.
Survivors include three children, Ron (Sherill) Bowers of Toddville; Diana “Tudi” Smith of Katy, Texas; and Roxanne Smith of Toddville; seven grandchildren, Heather, Ronda, Brandon, Nicole, Brett, Riley and Racquel; and 6 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; several siblings; and a grandson-in-law, Mike Bagge.
Helen was born Nov. 8, 1919, the daughter of Peter Victor and Lannaea (Anderson) Estling, in Coggon, Iowa. She married Eldee “Dee” Bowers on April 12, 1942, in St. Louis, Mo. He died Feb. 4, 2009. Helen was an active member of Zion Lutheran Church in Hiawatha, volunteering in many areas, including Sunday school. She was also an avid baseball fan and a wonderful mother and grandmother who truly enjoyed family activities and gatherings.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established in Helen's memory.
