Cedar Rapids to celebrate bicycling to work

CEDAR RAPIDS - Several activities and events will mark the celebration of Bike to Work Week May 16-20 in Cedar Rapids.
May has been designated National Bike Month.
'Residents are invited to participate in a variety of bike friendly activities throughout the month of May,” according to a news release from the city.
Among the events:
Monday, May 16
Proclamation and Bike to Work Week Opening Ride, 7 a.m. at Red's Public House, 112 Second St. SE. Red's will offer free coffee, and cyclists can join a short ride downtown.
Handlebar Happy Hour, 4-7 p.m., Sag Wagon, 827 Shaver Road NE
Tuesday, May 17
Pit Stops: Cyclists can stop by for educational material, snacks and giveaways
7-9 a.m. and 4-6 p.m. outside Red Ball Printing, 1390 Third St. SE, or on First Avenue at the trail across from the DoubleTree Hotel.
Wednesday, May 18
Bike to Lunch with the Mayor: 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Meet at City Hall or meet fellow cyclists for lunch at the restaurant, Kickstand Bar & Grill, 203 14th Ave. SE.
Linn County Ride of Silence, 7 p.m., starting in Marion at City Square Park, corner of 10th Street and Sixth Avenue, and rides eight miles through northeast Cedar Rapids.
Thursday, May 19
Pit Stops: Cyclists can stop by for educational material, snacks and giveaways
7-9 a.m. and 4-6 p.m. outside Red Ball Printing, 1390 Third St. SE, or on First Avenue at the trail across from the DoubleTree Hotel.
Meet Me at the Market, free Kids' Bike Helmet Giveaway. Ride starts at 6 p.m. at NewBo City Market.
Friday, May 20
Handlebar Happy Hour/Wrap-up Party, 6 p.m. Group photo in front of the Czech and Slovak Museum and Library, and then party with Handlebar Happy Hour at Lion Bridge Brewing Co.
Bike to Workweek activities have been organized by a task force of representatives from the City of Cedar Rapids, MPO, Iowa Bicycle Coalition, Bike Rags, Red Ball Printing, Blue Zones Project, and Bike 2 Work Consultants.
