Viola Krull, 87, passed away peacefully at her home on Thursday, Oct. 19, 2017, surrounded by several generations of her family and special friend, Kathy Schutt.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Oct. 23, at First Congregational Church, Anamosa. Pastor Sue Schneider-Adams will officiate at the services. Interment will be in Cass Cemetery at a later date. Friends may call from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday at Goettsch Funeral Home, Anamosa. Surviving are her husband, Larry; four children, Dan (MaryJo) Messerli, Anamosa, Chuck (Darlene) Messerli, Grants Pass, Ore., Christine Evanoff, Mechanicsville, and Kimberly (James) Sauser, Richmond, Texas; nine grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband, Dan Messerli; and a stepson, David Krull.

Viola was born June 19, 1930, on a farm near Wadena, Iowa. She was the daughter of Dorothy Homewood. Viola was raised by her grandmother, Harriett Homewood, following the death of her mother in 1932. She graduated from Wadena High School. Viola married Dan Messerli on May 5, 1948, and three children were born to the marriage, Daniel, Christine and Clement Charles. Dan died in an auto accident on July 17, 1967.

Viola married Larry J. Krull, a divorce with a son, David, on July 14, 1968, at the Methodist Church in Olin. The couple had a daughter together, Kimberly Kay. Viola worked as an inspector and foreman for 27 and 1/2 years at Rockwell International, retiring May 1, 1982. She continued working some part-time jobs well into her 60s.

She was a proud member of the First Congregational Church. She was an auxiliary member of the Anamosa VFW and AMVETS Post 110. She held offices in all these organizations as well. Viola was an avid reader, crossword puzzle solver, gardener and cook. She made the best pot roast in all of Jones County. Viola was and will continue to be the love and matriarch of her family.

The family would like to thank the staff at UnityPoint Hospitals, Jones Regional Medical Center, St. Luke's Living Center East, Above and Beyond Hospice and Synergy Home Care, all of whom provided much skilled and compassionate care, allowing her to remain at home until she passed peacefully into a better world.
